Matt Burchard – Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, and Piano

Matt began playing the saxophone in the 7th grade, and soon fell in love with making music and the musical community. After making it into several honor bands in high school, Matt knew he wanted to make music his career. Matt holds a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from the University of Denver, and a Master’s in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami. Matt maintains a busy teaching and performance schedule, playing in groups such as Joe Smith and The Spicy Pickles, the Diamond Empire Band, and in the pit orchestras at BDT Stage and The PACE Center.

Matt believes there is something to be learned from every genre of music. Students working with him can expect to work on a wide variety of music, including classical, jazz, pop, and rock. Matt works closely with students and parents to identify the unique needs of each student. This includes honing their strengths, and improving areas that need work. All students should expect to work on producing a good tone on their instrument, playing their instrument efficiently, rhythm, sight reading, and playing music in an expressive manner.

The thing I love about Maestro Music is the wide variety of activities students are able to participate in. From recitals to summer camps, students have a huge amount of opportunities to create and perform music, and make some friends along the way!
